LETTER FROM THE SMVFD PRESIDENT

Hello, I am Lt. Robert Arndt. I am the president of the St. Marys Volunteer Fire Fighters Association and one of the volunteer training officers for the department. I have been a volunteer for the department for the last eight years. I am also an active duty Seabee in the U.S. Navy. Volunteering for the fire department has been a very rewarding experience for me and I would like to thank you for your interest in becoming a Volunteer Fire Fighter with the St.Marys Fire Department. Being a volunteer fire fighter is a rewarding community service that allows you to gain a marketable skill while serving the citizens of St. Marys. These are the same citizens that are your friend and neighbors. Volunteer fire fighting is neighbors helping neighbors in their greatest time of need. As a member of our volunteer staff you will receive training in First Aid, Interior firefighting, wild land fire fighting, vehicle extrication, vehicle fire fighting, and hazardous materials mitigation. All this training will be provided at no cost. We will also issue you a full set of interior fire fighting gear, a St. Marys Fire Department T-shirt, and a ball cap. In addition to helping people in need there are also opportunities to help out with fire prevention in the grade schools. We understand that your time is your most valuable asset; therefore we stride to ensure that we don’t waist any of it. Our volunteers are required to give 15hrs of time to the department each month. Most of this time can be obtained by attending weekly training at our Dandy Street fire Station. Training is held on Tuesday nights and starts at 6:30 PM. Once again thank you for your interest in our department. For more information or to begin you journey as a volunteer fire fighter please e-mail me:
